Poor power quality can dramatically increase the cost of doing business which may be counted in hundreds of billion dollars worldwide. For many businesses, the cost of poor power quality is higher than the electricity bill. The results are lost production, equipment damage, idling personnel, data loss, revenue postponed, negative impact on cash-flow, loss of goodwill from customers and possibly even loss of market share.
Thus, Power Quality Symposium 2010 is held to bring together power quality experts to discuss the most recent and significant innovations, technologies and policies regarding to power quality.
A two-day conference dedicated to provide cost-effective, highly specialized education and learning through industry-wide forum and power quality seminars. It is jointly organized by the Center of Electrical Energy System (CEES), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on behalf of SIRIM Power Quality Technical Committee and Asia iKnowledge.

MANAGING COMPLEXITY IN MAJOR PROJECTS
Date: 12th March 2010
Venue: Jobsdb Training Centre, Wisma UOA II, KL
Jointly organized by:
ACCI & iKnowledge
Speaker: Mr. Tan Wee Teck, Secretary General of ACCI
Overview:
“THE Malaysian construction sector is recovering from the global financial crisis and is expected to peak between the third and fourth quarter of this year on the anticipation of a full rollout of three mega projects, says HwangDBS Vickers Research.
The mega projects are the RM2 billion Low Cost Carrier Terminal, to be sited about two kilometers from the KL International Airport in Sepang, Pahang-Selangor Water Transfer and Light Rail Transit (LRT) extensions.” - The Star, 6 Jan 2010
Complexity means many different things to different people, and is rapidly becoming one of those overused yet much misunderstood pieces of terminology. It can include the multifaceted nature of stakeholders, diversity of requirements, the intricacies of multi level systems design and architecture and the challenges of integration, test and acceptance.
In this one day program, we would like to share with you the Singapore experience on the implementation of the massive rapid transit projects. One of the major areas to be covered extensively is Procurement and Contract Management. This includes how procurement decisions are to be made, selection of contractors and types of contracts to be utilized.
It is also important to note that the strategy of multiple contracts will introduce additional coordination and interface issues among separate contracts. Therefore, the management tools used in managing multiple contracts will be deliberated.
In addition, participants will leave the program understanding how the contracts are to be administered, which covers performance reporting, payments, claims administration, and records management.
Other areas to be covered include:
- Project Reporting and Tracking
- Project Quality Plan
- Safety Management Program
- Construction Risk Management and Allocation
- Communications with the Public
